The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway
The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway celebrates the holidays with The Christmas Express -- twenty-three festive, fun-filled train rides. Passengers will be treated to holiday refreshments at the depot before boarding. On board, passengers will hear Christmas stories, sing Christmas carols with elves, and visit with the North Pole's jolliest elf himself during the ride.

Don't miss a memorable train ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway through the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains along the scenic and historical Toccoa River from Blue Ridge, Georgia to Copperhill, Tennessee. The train runs March through December for spectacular Georgia Mountain scenic views through the beautiful North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains and along the Toccoa River. The Christmas Express begins running the weekend after Thanksgiving to a day or two before Christmas in December. In the summer season, the train excursion can be combined with Ocoee River rafting.
Another awesome train excursion is on the Tennessee Valley Railroad in Chattanooga. Special rides include the Missionary Ridge Local, Chickamauga Turn, North Pole Limited, Dixieland Excursions, Hiwassee River Rails Adventures.
Enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride in downtown Dahlonega.
Canoe, raft and kayak rentals on the Cartecay River are available all year at Mountaintown Outdoor Expeditions nearby in Ellijay.
They also provide shuttle service, guide and instruction.

If you are from out-of-state, you will find that Elijay in the Georgia Mountains is a convenient location for Atlanta sightseeing. Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Whitewater, Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, CNN Center, Zoo Atlanta, World of Coca-Cola, Centennial Olympic Park, a Braves, Hawks, Thrashers or Falcons game. All a short drive away.
At River Glorious, wildlife is very abundant and very likely you will view deer, eagles, wild turkeys, otters, beavers, water fowl, bear and other wildlife in this protected environment. In the winter the wildlife is very visible in the wildlife refuge of Walnut Mountain. Please be respectful of their environment.
Visit spectacular Amicalola Falls, only a short drive from Walnut Mountain passing through "Apple Alley" with numerous farmstands.
