Winemaking in Georgia dates back to the 1800s and even long before since the Cherokee Indians were producing wine and growing their grapes in vineyards.  The state of Georgia was once a major grape growing and wine producing state until  the prohibition laws in 1907 destroyed the grape and wine industry in Georgia. By the early 1900s, Georgia was the 6th largest state  in grape and wine production.  More Georgia wine history.

With well drained steep hills, North Georgia's geography, soils, weather, seasons and elevation are conducive to growing winemaking grapes. Because of the soils in North Georgia, Georgia vineyards and wineries are undergoing award winning revolutions,and are growing excellent wine grapes and are producing award winning wines of excellent and respected quality. You are invited to experience the magnificent Blue Ridge scenery of the North Georgia vineyards and taste and savor the quality of the Georgia Blue Ridge wines as North Georgia is now growing into a respected wine growing region.

In 1998, native Atlantans Craig and Cydney Kritzer founded Frogtown in a location carefully selected for quality wine grape production and outstanding mountain views, the Frogtown District of Lumpkin County, Georgia. After researching Frogtowns soil, diverse climates and terrain, Craig divided the land up into separate vineyards. He planted different wine grape varieties based on the characteristics of each vineyard site. Frogtown is now home to 32 acres of vineyards planted to 15 different wine grapes varieties, both red and white.

Wine is bottled poetry.-Robert Lewis Stephenson

Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart.-ECCLESIASTES

 One not only drinks the wine, one smells it, observes it, tastes it, sips it and--one talks about it.-KING EDWARD VII

Reality is an illusion that occurs due to a lack of wine. -Anonymous

Good wine is a necessity of life for me.-Thomas Jefferson

Wine is the most civilized thing in the world. -Ernest Hemingway

Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried, with fewer tensions and more tolerance. -Benjamin Franklin

Wine is a food. -OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES

Among the great whom heaven has made to shine
How few have learned the are of arts--to dine. and
I give you one health in the juice of the vine,
The blood of the vineyard shall mingle with mine;
Thus let us drain the last dew drop of gold,
And empty our hearts of the blessings they hold. and
Then a smile and a glass and a toast and a cheer,
For all the good wine, and we've some of it here. and
"Tis nature's law that wine should flow
To wet the lips of friends.
Then once again, before we part
My empty glass shall ring. and
And let the loving cup go round,
The cup with blessed memories crowned. and
'Tis but the fool that loves excess;
Hast thou a drunken soul?
Thy bane is in thy shallow skull,
Not in my silver bowl.
OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES
Wine can be considered with good reason as the most healthful and the most hygienic of all beverages. The flavor of wine is like delicate poetry.-LOUIS PASTEUR
